Online Special: Gregor Hildebrandt
Jul 17 – Jul 31, 2020
Sommer Contemporary Art is pleased to present an online exhibition of recent works by Berlin-based artist Gregor Hildebrandt. Central materials used in his works are audio and VHS tapes that are either attached to canvases to create a painting-like surface or meticulously stretched side by side. By using obsolete media and materials as ready-mades, the artist breathes new life into them in a subtle manner. The outcome is abstract and the narrative is merely “burnt” on the monochromatic surface, transforming the nostalgic materials into contemporary and minimalistic works of art. Every artwork is related to a certain song, functioning as a three-dimensional visualisation of music.
Gregor Hildebrandt (b. 1974, Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe, Germany) lives and works in Berlin. He has participated, among others, in exhibitions at Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, Recklinghausen, Germany (2018), Sommer Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv (2017), Kunstlerhaus Bethanien Museum, Berlin (2016), Bass Museum of Art, Miami, USA (2014) and Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France (2012).
