Saâdane Afif / L’univers, by or of Yasmine d’O.

For many years Saâdane Afif and Yasmine d’O. have worked together to produce several artworks and conceptualize various projects. The most recent and largest-scale project is the Bergen Assembly, while the first was the performance “La leçon de Géométrie” at the Biennale of Marrakech in 2014, marking the first time Saâdane Afif and Yasmine d’O. met. Many of these productions have been conceived and/or realized in collaboration with other artists and collaborators. The latest, a collaboration with Saskia Diez, presents jewelry inspired by the geometric universe performance of 2014.

Thus, the exhibition “L’univers, by or of Yasmine d’O.” is a sort of attic, where the various milestones of Yasmine d’O.’s and Saâdane Afif’s history come together in one place and time through artworks, documentation, jewellery and more. At first glance, the various objects in the show seem to be unrelated: a group of chairs, a handwoven carpet, a script for a theater play, silver rings, to name a few. However, Afif draws connections between them – everything is interwoven and connected, much like actors on a stage, sharing an invisible story written elsewhere.
