Half Turn takes shape within Sommer Salon as a series of interventions into the architecture of this intimate setting. Responding specifically to this space, Hilla Toony Navok displaces familiar domestic elements from their expected contexts: curtains are trapped behind locked panels, shutters become freestanding structures carrying everyday objects, while other elements are inserted into the Salon’s kitchen, cupboards and bathroom. Through these subtle shifts in placement and function, the familiar becomes strange, revealing the emotional associations embedded in the domestic environment.

Windows, doors, shutters and locks have long appeared in Navok’s work as structures that regulate movement: they allow passage while also holding something back, connecting inside and outside while maintaining the possibility of separation. The title Half Turn captures precisely this suspended movement – the partial turn of a key, the beginning of an opening or a closing, without determining in which direction it will continue. Across the exhibition, this unresolved gesture becomes both physical and emotional, moving between retreat and approach, containment and passage, the desire to open and the impulse to close.
