Michal Samama / Gallery Weekend Tel Aviv
Jul 02 – Jul 04, 2020
Gallery Weekend Tel Aviv | 2-4.7.2020 | Michal Samama – “Active Recess” at Sommer Contemporary Art Tel-Aviv
As part of the “Gallery Weekend” events in Tel-Aviv, Sommer Contemporary Art has invited the artist, performer and choreographer Michal Samama to perform a site-specific performance in the gallery, referring to its empty space, as it prepares to move to its new location at Herzl 16.
During this evening, Michal Samama will perform “Active Recess,” a unique performance which is fundamentally an exercise in installation – in movement, space, and choreography of bodies and objects.
In “Active Recess,” the participants form a living image influenced by the iconic painting ‘A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’ by Georges Seurat, accompanied by the songs of the famous Israeli singers Meir Ariel and Shlomo Artzi. The performance brings to mind conscious daydreaming and creates a lingering halt, a passing remark that becomes the central interest.
The performance will take place on Thursday, July 2nd between 8 pm-11pm at Sommer Contemporary Art, 13 Rothschild Blvd., Tel-Aviv. Performers: Michal Samama, Karmit Burian, Omer Uziel and Hila Gluskinos. Dramaturge: Arnon Rabin. The installation that functions as the performance’s setting will be on view on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th between 11am-1pm.
